Last Friday I gave out my list for the best skin care products of 2015 that I tried and you can check it out here. Today, it will be sharing my best list for primer, foundation, and concealer.
Most of the time I am a creature of habit, so whatever I find that works will be a staple for me may it be food, brand or style of clothing (that’s why I always stick to the classics) but there will be times when I can be adventurous with my picks. For 2015, I finally decided to try brands that were much-raved in social media. I consider this as a bold move because first of all, I have no assurance that these products will be friends with my combination skin and secondly, the prices are not on the so affordable side; add the fact that we cannot return them in case it is not compatible with my skin.

Lastly, please note that the brands that I will share were personally purchased, used, tested and they impressed me. This post is not a guarantee that they will work on you as different skins have different reactions. For example, the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation – I love it but not everyone (including some beauty bloggers) was wowed. So it really depends on your personal choices and preferences. 😉
A mini-sample (in a sachet) was given to me and after trying it, I told myself that this is the kind of primer that I need. Make Up Forever offers a wide range of primers and this particular primer blurs my large pores so when I apply the foundation it is much smoother.
Thankfully this is available at the local Sephora stores and a full size is priced at 68 SGD. This tube can last you a long time because you only have to use a small amount of the product.
I have loved MAC Matchmaster (I’m on shade 1.5) and MAC Pro Longwear (NC25) for 2 years but recently, I keep having breakouts and small bumps appear after using them. I even tried the MAC Lightful and MAC Studio Face and Body (which I think is different from the one in the US – the MAC Face and Body foundation which a lot of people swear that it is like one of the best from this brand). That is why I tried to check out other options and I discovered 2:
- NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
- Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation
NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
The foundation claims that it can last up to 16 hours of wear but please, do not let your foundation sit on your face for that long! When the SA applied a sample on my face, I really liked the way it looked on me. One pump and it gives off the right coverage that I am looking without looking heavy or cakey. It blends really well and looks natural after it settles on the skin and I love how my face looks especially after I finish my makeup.
This has been my go-to foundation during the holidays and the longest that I wore this was for 12 hours. A bottle of this foundation costs 75 SGD (I am on shade Light 4 – Deauville) and it contains 30 ml of products. You can buy it from NARS stores at Tangs here in Singapore.

Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation
I love this because it gives me a very natural look – does not look and feel heavy and it can survive a humid/hot weather (add the sweat, if you must) if you seal it with a good setting powder + setting spray. It gives a medium to full coverage. Actually, one pump will be enough for the whole face. As you all know, I am that lady who prefers full coverage but with this, I can go with just one pump, max of 1 1/2 pumps.
The longest that I used it was almost 10 hours and the environment was a combination of cool/air conditioned and hot/humid. Make Up Forever offers a wide range of shade and (I am on shade Y225) that is a great thing. It comes in a pump bottle and gives you a 30 ml worth of foundation. This costs 72 SGD which is not far from the price of NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.
The only concealer that I have tried since I started was MAC’s Pro Longwear concealer (NC20) however, there are times that it can be heavy and at times that it creases, yet I still love it.
With so much love and great commendations for NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, I decided to give it a try because why not? And the best thing about it? It did not disappoint! I love that it is easy to blend (because it is creamy) and works well with dark under eyes. So far I haven’t experienced any creasing; it blends well with my liquid foundation and it did not feel heavy or cakey.
The coverage is so good that after applying (& blending) it on my problematic areas, I will only need a small amount of foundation to complete the base of my makeup.
