#9. PROTECT THE BOSS

Release Date: 2011
Genre: Romance, Comedy , Action
Starring: Ji Sung and Choi Kang-Hee
Episodes: 18

I “met” Ji Sung thru this drama and I remember watching this with my sister (who is,by the way, a super fan of Ji Sung) and well, I did not regret it. 🙂 The story is a bit simple but I enjoyed the humour and comedic timing of this series.

Cha Ji-Heon (Ji Sung) is the only son and heir of the DN group but he acts like a spoiled brat and as if he has no interest in the family business. His cousin and corporate rival, Cha Mu-Won (Kim Jaejoong) is his complete opposite and also running after the highest position in the family corporation. Noh Eun-Sol (Choi Kang-Hee) on the other hand is this tough woman who is struggling to find a stable job. Her academic records are not outstanding to start with, then add up her juvenile delinquent record. However, her lucky stars must have aligned that she landed a job at the DN group and became Cha Ji-Heon’s executive secretary.

Their work relationship did not start well but later on, they got along just fine to a point that she even helped Cha Ji-Heon to overcome his fear of public speaking . The two male leads will also grow an interest to Noh Eun-Sol and so the love triangle begins.

#8. FATED TO LOVE YOU

fated-to-love-you-poster

Release Date: 2014
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Drama
Starring: Jang Hyuk and Jang Na-Ra
Episodes: 20

This was a remake the original 2008 Taiwanese drama Fated to Love You. I haven’t watched the Taiwanese version but I loved the Korean adaptation. Watched this for 3 days (I think) and on the first 2 days I was laughing so much and after that, I was weeping non-stop. 😩 Aigoo! These K-dramas!

fated-to-love-you-mbc-korean-dramas-39689638-470-260

Kim Mi-Young (Jang Na-Ra) is a dorky girl working in a law firm. She’s such a pushover that she was named the “Post-It Girl.” Lee Gun (Jang Hyuk) on the other hand, is the handsome and cool CEO of their family company. At one time, Mi-Young and Lee Gun were at the same place for different reasons – she was on a vacation while he’s planning to propose to his special girl. One misfortune led to another bad circumstance and the next thing was they got so drunk, had the wrong room numbers and had an “accidental” one night stand.

fated-to-love-you

Mi-Young got pregnant and things got complicated, but Lee Gun looked after her and they decided to live under one roof until she gives birth. Feelings were starting to grow until the situation becomes complicated AGAIN. Also, add the neighbourhood oppa, Daniel (Choi Jin Hyuk) who also got eyes for Mi-Young. 🙂

#7. OH MY VENUS!

Release Date: November 2015 – January 2016
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Drama & Fitness
Starring: So Ji-Sub and Shin Min-a

So Ji-Sub is my no. 1 oppa and he flaunted his trimmed and gorgeous physique in this drama. H 🔥O🔥T🔥!

Kim Young-Ho (So Ji-Sub) is known as John Kim and he’s a famous personal trainer in Hollywood but no one has ever seen his face except his clients. Meanwhile, Kang Joo-Eun (Shin Min-a) used to be the most famous and beautiful girl in Daegu (her hometown) and she was in a relationship with Woo Shik (Jung Gyu-Woon) who was once a national swimmer. After 15 years, Joo-Eun became a lawyer but also gained a lot of weight that she lost her beauty and appeal.

tumblr_nyqsolufyg1spr9glo1_500-2

Kim Young-Ho was involved in a celebrity scandal and there’s nowhere else to go but home. His plan to temporary stay in Korea changed when he was set to accept a bigger responsibility for his family business. On a flight back to Korea, Joo-Eun collapsed on the plane and Kim Young-Ho, together with his team, helped her. Since then, their paths would always cross and she was always placed in a bad situation and he is the first to rescue her.

oh-my-venus

She later found out that he was a trainer to famous stars and took advantage of the situation and asked for Kim Young-Ho/John Kim’s help to be fit again. As her weight becomes lighter, their relationship becomes deeper. They helped each other to overcome their personal weaknesses and hardships.

I LOVE…

  • The storyline may be simple but I like the sweet moments and kissing scenes.
  • It was cute, light and not overly dramatic. And yey for the in-laws, too! 😉
  • If you are trying to lose some weight then you can relate to Joo-Eun’s hardship and excuses/self-denial 😀

my-love-from-the-star-4

Do Min-Joon (Kim Soo-Hyun) is an alien living on earth for 400 years and just waiting for his time to go back to his planet. During the Joseon Dynasty, he fell in love with a girl, who later on died saving her. He lived a stoic life since then. Fast forward to the present time, he is disguised as a professor at a university.

my-love-from-the-star-3

Cheon Song-Yi (Jun Ji-Hyun) is South Korea’s most sought-after star with a tough personality which makes her difficult to deal with. But despite the fame and cranky shell, she has personal problems and having difficulties dealing with them. This drama also shows the struggles of being a top celebrity where you can’t even have a room for error.

my-love-from-the-star

Do Min-Joon met Cheon Song-Yi on the elevator and was mistaken as a stalker/fan but later she found out that they were neighbours. With his super abilities, he cannot help but hear her cry at night and even help her when she was rushed to the hospital. Cheon Song-Yi looked like the girl from the Joseon Dynasty that he once loved and as days go by, she eventually fell in love with him and tries her best to win his heart.

His days on Earth were already numbered but how can he leave the person he loves for the second time, right? Better watch it so you can find the answer. 🙂

Aside from the on-screen chemistry and quirk of this couple, My Love From The Star is also famous for 2 things:

Chicken and Beer

  • This became popular in Asia and there were even reports that some couples divorced because the husbands can’t provide the fried chicken and beer when their wives requested them in the middle of the night. 😳😬

Cheon Son-Yi’s fashion style.

Of course! She is, if not, the most stylish Korean drama lead actress that I’ve seen to date. Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Jimmy Choo, Giuseppe Zanotti, Delvaux and Celine are just some of the famous brands that she wore during the entire show. Cheon Song-Yi was styled perfectly from head to toe – exactly how a top star should look like.

Release Date: 2011
Genre: Romance, Comedy & Drama
Starring: Cha Seung-won and Gong Hyo-Jin
Episodes: 16

Dokko Jin (Cha Seung-Won) is the hottest and most sought-after star while Gu Ae-Jung is the most hated celebrity. 10 years ago she was the lead member of the fast-rising girl group named “National Treasure Girls” but in the mid of their fame, Ae-Jung quit the group and their fans hated her since then. She became the centre of scandals and bad publicities.

greatest-love

While Dokko Jin gets to pick all the best projects, endorsements and showered with love by his fans, it was the exact opposite for her. Though Ae-Jung’s been struggling with her career, she just can’t quit because her family depends on her and so she accepts all kinds of project, no matter how outrageous or humiliating it can be.

In an unexpected event, Ae-Jung discovered something about Dokko Jin that can shake his international career. In order to keep that secret, she asked him a favour and so he helped her. Since then, they would always bump into each other and he personally witnessed how her low-life was like.

greatest-love-dokko-jin-and-gu-ae-jung

Maybe it started from pity but as he gets to know her, Dokko Jin fell in love with Ae-Jung but the feeling was not mutual. He is doing is best to win her heart but Yoon Pil-Joo (Yoon Kye-Sang) is on his way.

Yoon Pil-Joo is an Oriental medicine doctor who is the total opposite of Dokko. He is gentle, well-mannered and likes Ae-Jung so much. He also happens to be the bachelor of the reality dating show where Ae-Jung is one of the contestants.

greatest-love-dokko-jin

Greatest Love showed the phases and faces of being a celebrity. The ups and downs if you’re the most loved and most hated person in showbiz. It’s like the old saying “Love conquers all” or “You and me against the world” for Dokko Jin and Ae-Jung but their love for each other will come thru.

On the other hand, Sung-Joon, who used to be chubby and dorky grew up to be a handsome and smart guy. When Hye-Jin saw him she hid and asked her beautiful BFF Min Ha Ri (Go Joon-Hee) to pretend  to be Kim Hye-Jin just for that evening. Things went well, or so she thought.

After landing a permanent job, Hye-Jin was temporarily assigned to The Most publication and her boss is no other than Ji Sung-Joon. With guilt and fear of being recognised, she cannot do her job well and keeps on getting to Sung-Joon’s nerves. Hwang Jung-Eum’s acting was so funny to a point that she looks crazy especially when she’s very nervous and starts biting her teeth. 😂😂😂 But I really love their on-screen chemistry and how Park Seo-Joon portrayed the sweet and gentle side of Ji Sung-Joon’s character. How you wish all guys are like him!  😂

Cha Do-Hyun (Ji Sung) is the sole heir of a huge corporation but he is suffering from a Multiple Personality Disorder due to a childhood trauma. He was in the US for several years where he underwent treatments but was unsuccessful. He came back to Korea by mistake (one of his personalities) and met Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung-Eum), a psychiatrist who will eventually help him overcome his illness.

kill-me-heal-me-cha-do-hyun DID.gif

Oh Ri On (Park Seo-Joon) is Oh Ri Jin’s brother and a famous author behind the pseudonym OMEGA. He gained curiosity on Cha Do-Hyun’s history and was secretly investigating him. Later on, they will find out that their lives were somehow intertwined and the events in their past and present were related.

In my opinion, Kill Me, Heal Me is one of the best drama series that I’ve watched. It’s one of a kind. It was funny, romantic, dramatic and also insightful. Ji Sung showcased his acting skills when he portrayed 7 personalities and I truly became a fan since then. From facial expressions, dialogues and body movements – FLAWLESS. You will laugh and cry with each of the personality and you’ll also feel sad for the broken personality of Cha Do-Hyun. To me, he is one of the best actors in South Korea. 👍🏻

Kill Me, Heal Me - Yo Na

“Everyone has many different personalities in himself. Living with each different identities is a defence mechanism to live in this hard world.”

– Oh Ri Jin

Kill Me, Heal Me - Yo Na

This is one of my favourite scenes from this drama because we (me & hubby) used to do the same when we are bored.   😂 Weird? nope! We just know how to have fun! And yes! It’s Park Seo-Joon and Hwang Jung-Eum again. 🙂

#2. MASTER’S SUN

masters-sun

Release Date: 2013
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Drama, Suspense,  Horror
Starring: Gong Hyo-Jin and So Ji-Sub
Episodes: 17

This used to be my number one pick but later you will found out which drama bumped this to second place. I’ve watched this for 5 times and I will watch it again and again and again.

joo-jong-won

masters-sun_joo-joong-won

Tae Gong Shil (Gong Hyo-Jin) has a special ability to see and interact with ghosts but it was more of a curse for her. She can no longer live a normal life that she used to have because the souls keep on bugging her all the time. Joo Joong Won (So Ji Sub) on the other hand is a snob, selfish CEO and owner of KINGDOM corporation who always calculates and thinks about money.

tae-gong-shil_ms

They met on a rainy evening and when their hands accidentally touched, both felt a weird, electric current but Joong Won denied it. Gong-Shil realised that whenever she touches Joong Won, the ghosts disappears. Since then she followed him and tried to explain why she needs him badly. Gong-Shil later convinced him that she can be useful to him in order to find the missing diamond necklace that was paid as his ransom when he was kidnapped years ago. Joong-Won agreed but her presence somewhat irritates him and he would always tell her to get lost.

masters-sun

Together they solved a number of mysteries that happened within Kingdom corporation and Joong Won started to see Gong-Shil as a woman. He tried to push her away and even offered to give her expensive things but she refused because she is also starting to fall for him but she can’t let her feelings show because she needs to fix her life and sort out her personal issues first.

masters-sun-_get-lost2

Master’s Sun is fun to watch but also a bit thrilling in a sense. I’m so kilig (tickled pink) by their love story but my only comment would be for Joo Joong Won’s character. It fell short when it was not explained why Joong Won can drive the ghosts away whenever Gong-Shil touched him. But other than that, I love this drama, including the soundtracks. 🙂

Here is one of my favourite scenes:

And my number one spot….

⭐️#1. IT’S OKAY, THAT’S LOVE⭐️

its-okay-thats-love-poster

Release Date: 2014
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Medical Drama
Starring: Jo In-Sung and Gong Hyo-Jin
Episodes: 16

I bought this in 2015 and let it sit in my cabinet for almost a year and what was I thinking???!!

Jang Jae-Yeol (Ji In-Sung) is a famous mystery novel author and DJ. He is undoubtedly handsome and has a straightforward but playful personality. He met Ji Hae-Soo when they were invited to a TV show and stood as opposing panels in the program.  Jae-Yeol was challenged with Hae-Soo’s strong personality and became interested in her since then.

its-okay-thats-love-jang jae yeol

Ji Hae-Soo is a first-year psychiatrist on her fellowship programme and she’s known for her short temper and brutally honest nature. Despite being in a relationship, she still got commitment issues and genophobia because of a childhood trauma. With the help of her senior, Jo Dong-min (Sung Dong-Il) she undergoes therapy sessions but it wasn’t working because Hae-Soo is avoiding to face the problem.

Gong Hyo Hin - Ot's okay thats love

Ji Hae-Soo, Jo Dong-Min and Park Soo-Kwang (Lee Kwang-Soo) who has a Tourette’s Syndrome live in one house owned by Jang Jae-Yeol. Since he wants to win Hae-Soo’s heart and attention, Jae-Yeol moved in and they became housemates. Living in a dysfunctional set-up may seem crazy but that’s their own definition of NORMAL. Their house is the place without rules and they can be free to do whatever they want, whenever they want.

its-okay-thats-love3

its-okay-thats-love-sweet

Finally, after a series of argument and misunderstanding, Jae-Yeol and Hae-Soo became a couple. With him, Hae-Soo slowly opened up and started to heal her scars. Later on, she also found out that Jae-Yeol is licking his own wounds – he has OCD and can only sleep in the bathroom. But his OCD was just a minor issue. Sooner they will find out that Jae-Yeol is also suffering from a serious mental disorder.

its-okay-thats-love_kiss

You might think that It’s Okay, That’s Love (IOTL) is just like Kill Me, Heal Me (KMHM) but my answer is NO. Although both of them share the same genre, the story plot of It’s Okay, That’s Love is different. In KMHM, the main characters were connected in the past and they were the key to each other’s healing while in IOTL the lead actor did not know that he has a Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Okay, I will stop here because I might give out so many details! 😆

“We humans are mistakenly thinking that we are always free and living in a new way. But the thing that dominates us in the end, are the usual habits that we are used to doing every day.”

– Ji Hae Soo

Why I Love It’s Okay, That’s Love:

  • Out of all the K-dramas that I’ve watched to date, Jae-Yeol and Hae-Soo are the sweetest and most loving couple. They kiss, tease, talk, hug and look at each other like a normal couple who are deeply in love with each other.

its-okay-thats-love-1

  • I’m happy that K-Dramas are already moving forward, embracing and portraying intimacy the right way and honestly, it made a huge difference. As a viewer, I can really relate and so I engaged more. It’s as if I also fell in love when the characters fell in love and became a couple.

its-okay-thats-love-4

“Someone said the most violent words in the world are labeling people as manly, womanly, motherly, doctor-like, student-like, things like that. Everyone lives life for the first time. So we’re clumsy and should be pitied. And allowed to make mistakes.”

-Dr. Lee Young Jin

Lastly, watching this made me realise that Dr. Jo Dong-Min was right when he questioned the fact that cancer patients always receive pity, understanding and attention from their families while patients with mental disorders receive nothing but disgust or fear. Both patients need the family’s support and understanding and they deserve to be treated the same.

its-okay-thats-love2

“Like that, due to many people’s help, at that convent in a cave, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, there is a candle that is continually lit without burning out day or night. There’ is only one reason why the candle is lit. It’s for all the lonely people in the world outside of the cave. For those of you who are lonely because you’re alone, there is someone who is praying for you 24 hours a day. Remember that. You are not alone, not even for a second.”

– Jang Jae-Yeol

And there goes my list! Let me know if you’ve watched them or if you have recommendations, too! 🙂 I still got some titles lined up and of course, once I’m done, I will let you know my thoughts thru this blog.

This is me for now, and as Ahn Yo Na puts it, PEACE! 😂
