I started sharing my huge love for matte lipsticks thru my lip swatches and since then, I’ve been receiving messages on how I managed to make them last. So once and for all, I’m gonna share my simple lip care routine here. 😉
Always remember that lips are also skin and they need attention, too. There are only 2 steps in my lip care routine and they are:
Yes, you have to remove the dead skin of your lips. I normally scrub my lips at least twice a week and you can do that with:
- your toothbrush or
- use lip scrubs
If you don’t want to buy a lip scrub, then make your own. Just mix some sugar with olive oil or honey and then scrub gently.
After you’ve applied all your night skin care products, never forget to moisturise the lips. You can apply your favourite lip balm or petroleum jelly and leave them overnight. Personally, I prefer using a mint flavoured lip balm and the Lucas Papaw Ointment alternately. When you wake up the next day, your lips will feel moisturised.
I love lip balms but I only stick to mint flavoured ones. I was never a fan of the fruity flavours or those with tints (red, pink, purple) because I feel that they make my lips dry.
Removing Liquid Matte Lipsticks
Now, if you’re into liquid matte lipsticks and wearing them for more than 8 hours, you will need:
A good makeup remover
- oil-based makeup removers, olive oil or coconut oil in order to remove the product from your face.
- use a cotton pad, Q-tips or facial cleansing wipes
Back to Step 1 & 2
- Exfoliate and moisturise
If you are experiencing chapped lips, avoid licking them or it will just make things worse.
And for my final step, but definitely the most important one – drink lots of water. Stay hydrated.
These are just simple steps that you may neglect from time to time, but once you start incorporating them into your daily routine, you will notice the difference. I believe that with healthy lips, any lip products will look good. 🙂
