Finally! I’m sharing my full experience with Chronic Ink Tattoo Culture & Mia Claravall-Reyes a.k.a Mia Loca. 😀
I found Mia’s works while browsing Instagram for local tattoo artists in Manila. When I got back to the Philippines, I sent a DM to her official account (@mialocatatto) and booked an appointment right away because again, it was just a quick trip and I have to make the most out of it.
Their studio is on the 2nd floor of a bar/restaurant and it’s themed with black and neon green colour with lots of cool toys! este stuff! Ang asteg! They got a family computer (that actually works and you can play while waiting for your turn) and then some board games & lots of books about tattoos. They also have some merch that you can check out, in case you want to buy.
Mia Claravall-Reyes is my first female tattoo artist and let me put this outright, I LOVE HER. I love her vibe, her energy to her clients and the way she connects with every one of us. You won’t get intimidated because she’s friendly and being the person on the other end of the convo, it’s just easier to convey your thoughts on how you want your tatts to look like.
The process of having a tattoo is already nerve-wracking and let’s admit it, we all want our designs to look the best and we kinda want to share the stories behind the design/phrase that we want to be put on our skin. It’s something to be proud of, eh. And Mia, she does that.
In case you don’t know, she’s not just Insta-famous, but she’s on top of the list of the best female tattoo artists in the Philippines. Mia is one of the favourites by the local celebrities, too. But despite the fame & recognition, she’s unassuming and that, in my opinion, is one of her charms. 🙂
Me and my lovely chica went to the studio with a couple of designs in mind but guess what?! We ended up having more than one! It was Nina’s first time to get hers and she got 3! Tough one, eh!
Mine was originally a cherry blossom as a memorial tattoo for my late nanay, but like what we always say, “andito ka na rin lang, pagsabayin mo na!” And so I added another one on my left upper thigh to complement & balance my Aquarius symbol.
Nina, Mia & Me
I would say that my experience with Chronic Ink was an unforgettable one and let me count the ways:
ONE. Mia is my first female artist.
TWO. Aside from the fact that the place is clean, fully air-conditioned and smells nice; I loved the atmosphere! It was very chill, friendly & accommodating. On the day of our schedule, we were the first ones to arrive but later on, the studio was filled with their other clients. While waiting for our turns, we had a quick chat with the rest of the people in the room and it was just fun! We get to know what designs they wanted, how many tatts they had, their first tattoos, etc. Even our own session was enjoyable too. Mia’s hands are so light that I barely felt the pain. Well, except for the one on my thigh 😬Honestly, we had too much fun chatting that we forgot the time and got home around 1 am. We’re like one big barkada there. 🙂
THREE. The cherry blossom on my arm is a very important piece and so close to home.
Last, but not the least…
FOUR. I’ve fulfilled one of my bucket list item – 5 (tatts) before 35.
Here’s a quick video of our entire experience:
- Minimum rate – 1, 500 PHP(black/gray) & 2, 000 PHP (coloured)
- They can also do custom designs and rates will vary depending on the size and details.
