“Romance for the twenty-first century.”
Genre: Fiction/Contemporary Romance

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.
Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.
Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them…right?
T H O U G H T S…
Hazel must be the most awkward fictional character person I’ve met. She’s like on top of the list, together with Sheldon Cooper’s socially inept personality & Howard Wolowitz’ sleazy vibes. Hazel Bradford is like the combo pack! Okay, less of the sleazeballs but once you read the novel, you’ll get what I mean. A bit surprising for an elementary teacher, yeah?
Nung nagsabog ng kapalpakan si Lord, siya yung gising na gising at naulanan ng bongga. Nakuha niya na ata yung jackpot bayong at gintong banga sa kapalpakan! She’s got a lot of things going on but FINESSE is totally out of her vocabulary, or system, for that matter. One of her biggest issues? She can’t seem to make her mouth and mind agree at the same time. But you see, that’s also one of the best thing about her…she has this unapologetically beautiful persona.
Also, can we just talk about Hazel’s witty pet names? She has
- a dog, Winnie the Labradoodle
- a bird, Vodka the parrot
- a rabbit, Janis Hoplin because surely, it hops!
- and a fish, Daniel Craig
IN A NUTSHELL…
Josh & Hazel goes way back in college. She actually likes him but she’s not aware of that, because she is Hazel-y. Like HAZEL-Y is an actual adjective. Fast forward (10 years) they meet again only to find out that Emily, who’s now one of Hazel’s closest friends, is Josh’s sister. Emily is married to Dave, who happens to be Hazel’s new boss. Small world, eh? So yes, that’s the Venn diagram of their worlds and the start of the exciting months between our two main characters.
Josh has a girlfriend named Tabby, but they broke up because she cheated on him. He needed to move on so they (Josh & Hazel) had an agreement that they’ll set each other up with other people – A double blind date, if you will. Along the way, and 7 failed blind dates after, they realised they are in love with each other. And this is the part where I’m gonna stop because you have to actually read the novel so you can catch my drift here. 😉
FAVOURITE (DATE) MOMENTS…
- Adam the Panty Dropper
- Hazel’s famous ex – Tyler Jones or shall we phrase it as “here comes the ex with all the beautiful words”
- Elsa, the grabber
- The winning quiz bee answer – Getting Pretty Panties Ripped Requires Real Damn Initiative!
The authors, Christina & Lauren, described this book as “pure, unadulterated fun” and I couldn’t agree more! I finished reading it within 24 hours, which is by the way, another record-breaker! The story is hilarious, sexy, romantic without the cheesiness and I declare this as one of my best reads for 2018!
