I’m kicking off my October with Courtney Carver’s #Project333 and I posted everything on my IG story, too.
WHAT MADE ME DO IT?
When I was travelling back & forth to Manila over the past months, I had to put everything in a suitcase. So basically, it’s my life for 8 weeks and everything in there should fit in a luggage with nothing over 30 kilos, tops! There goes all my clothes (workout wear included), beauty & skincare, supplements (in bottles) shoes, chargers and books.
Then one day, (during the 2nd wave of my travel around May 2018) I was arranging my stuff in my suitcase and realised that half of the clothes that I brought were unused. So it’s either I’m a bad travel packer (that didn’t sound good!) or I just got used to wearing the same clothes over and over again. I wanna go for the latter.
SERIAL OUTFIT REPEATER
Guilty as charged! But did it hurt me? NO!
Did I hate it? NO!
Did it make me less of a person? NO!
Did someone pointed it out and made me feel like a loser? Another NO.
In fact, life was less complicated that way. I wash and wear my clothes. Period. Plus, I find myself picking up the same outfits because they’re very comfortable. So when I got back, I know I need to start the phase 2 of my Wardrobe Edit. And here we are, trying Courtney Carver’s #PROJECT333!
- WHEN: Every three months (It’s never too late to start so join in anytime!)
- WHAT: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
- WHAT NOT: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring or another sentimental piece of jewelry that you never take off, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear, and workout clothing (but your workout clothes have to workout).
- HOW: Choose your 33 items, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of sight.
- WHAT ELSE: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. Remember that this is not a project in suffering. If your clothes don’t fit or are in poor condition, replace them.

Let’s get started!
STEP 1: I pulled everything out of my closet so I can also check all the stuff that I have.
STEP 2: I prepared Post-Its and wrote numbers 1-33 so I can stick them on my article of choice.
STEP 3: Time for some TOUGH LOVE!
This is the longest part, actually. Because it’s only 33 items, we need to visualise how to mix n’ match the clothes. Keep a paper and pen handy, so you can list them down. You can go many ways here – by type of clothes, by style or by pairings. You can do whatever you want, so long as you finish with 33 items.
As I was going thru my stuff, I realised that despite 3 cycles of decluttering my closet, I still got a number of clothes that I haven’t worn for so long! Like, 2 years or more.
Let’s compare it with my well-loved distressed boyfriend jeans that are actually my husband’s and we bought it in 2009 (I think..) I got it back in 2017 and been using it at least once a week. Unfortunately, I’m letting it go because they’re so tattered that it’s almost hobo…
STEP 4: The Reveal!
When I started the process, I thought I had everything figured out and even got 2 empty slots. But after sleeping it in, I had to do some changes. This process takes time and a lot of thinking so if you’re doing it too, don’t sweat it out so much. Take your time! You’ll be with these items for the next 90 days! and omg! Christmas season is coming too! So, we are expecting a lot of parties and events and we have to be realistic here.
MY 33 ITEMS:
- 3 Shoes
- 3 bags
- 1 bracelet
- 1 Cardigan
- 1 Jumpsuit
- 1 Pair of Shorts
- 1 Spaghetti Strap
- 2 Jeans
- 4 Casual pants
- 6 Dresses
- 2 Shirts
- 8 Tops
STEP 5: Pack The Rest
According to Courtney Carver, you don’t have to throw or donate the items that you didn’t choose. Just put them in a container or a box and keep them away for the next 3 months. And so I folded each item, placed them in separate ziplock bags and stored them at the bottom of my closet.
Now, the real challenge begins…
We’ll see how the next three months will go and personally, I’m very positive about this Project 333. It’s a good start. I’ll definitely update you on how the things will go and what about you? When was the last time you cleaned your closet? 😀
Until next time!
